Morning

Most mornings around here are a chaotic blur as we all rush to get ready for school or work, but some mornings are peaceful and relaxed. I had one of those mornings today. I have a hunch the fact that I had the day off and the school semester is over for me may have had something to do with it. We had a beautiful sunrise and I just sat in the living room watching the bare trees sway while drinking two cups of Yogi tea. It was fabulous. I even made fresh squeezed orange juice for the whole family, which is just what we needed during this "sick" season. I am not a morning person at all, but since I have to wake up around 6am most days for the kids, there is nothing like having some peace and quiet. I am hoping for lots more of these mornings and maybe one day I WILL be a morning person?

Fresh OJ and Oatmeal made with bananas & a drizzle of honey for my son.

Dawn through the window.

Dawn from outside...those are the trees I watch sway back and forth, by the way I love trees.

Knitting with my pup at my side.
Time for me to knit a few rows and then head back into sleep land.

These days

These days we are ridiculously busy finishing up school semesters, it is finals week by the way. These days there isn't much time for merry making and carefully thought of plans are falling to the side with not much hope of being completed, but that is ok. This is what being a college student with a full time job and a family is all about and in the end if my handmade plans don't come to fruition, who cares...after all the important thing is spending time with my family during these days in my free moments. These days, I am so thankful for easy meals and an awesome mom who purchases boxes for easy meals for the kids ,and on top of that mom bought a 6 pack of Sapporo beer for me...see, awesome. These days overfilling with almost too much stuff, are almost over and I am truly thankful for that. For now, I need to get back to writing a paper and studying for a difficult final, but maybe I can fit in a tiny study knitting break, just a tiny one to clear the mind. Yes, I think it is very much needed.

Love the bond that these two have.

Japanese style potatoes and brussels sprouts.

Brown rice, nori, braised Japanese style daikon, all covered in green tea and sprinkled with Gomasio.

Mushroom galette.

Broccoli cheese soup topped with baked goldfish, daikon kimchi and brown rice, hummus with lemon and cumin.

This is where she spends most of her days right now...I think she has the right idea.

Rian's hair is getting longer and I am loving it. He goes from wanting hair like Thor to the next day wanting me to buzz it all off. I am hoping he will let it grow a bit, especially during these cooler months.

Super easy nutritious meal for me.
I'll be back in a couple days.

On This Day Of Thanks

My kids stated that we need to say our Thanks today and I replied that I say my thanks on a daily basis, maybe not aloud, but truthfully I do feel thankful for the life that I have every single day, even through the not so perfect times. Today I spent most of the day right where I am the happiest, in the kitchen.

Roasted Beets and the first snow of the season the day before Thanksgiving!

Waffles and Quiche for breakfast.

After Breakfast I took a walk with my sweetie and our pup, while my mom and the kids stayed in the warmth of the house watching the Macy's Day Parade. We had a ridiculously sunny day, but still quite chilly. We still have ice even though most of the snow has melted.
My mimosa in the fanciest glass ever.

Seeded Bread.

Pumpkin Soup.

Mashed Potatoes.
Roasted lemony garlic brussels sprouts.

Vegan mushroom gravy.

Cornbread stuffing.

Dinner is ready. That loaf is the Vegan Field Roast En Croute.

Mmmmmmm.

Pumpkin Pie and Apple Pie.

 Leftovers, oh yea.
It was a great day and I am kind of blissfully exhausted now, so time to relax and sleep.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
Peace, Yasmin

Best of Fall Part 2

At this point it feels more like Winter than Fall. Today's highs were only in the 30s, goodness me. I am not quite prepared for this and I definitely don't have enough wooly warmth for this degree of cold. Better get knitting, right? Anyways, I wanted to share some more of the Fall goodness that we have been experiencing.

Breakfast at our favorite local bakery. Hot chocolate for the kiddos and a chai charger for me, with a pretty design in the delicious foam.

Last soccer game of the season.

Hearty cold weather food. Cream of Tomato soup, Spinach mushroom feta quiche, Cheesecake Factory cheesecake (original & pumpkin), a delicious omelet for breakfast.

Lots of Lego play. The second picture was taken by Ashleigh, a child's view of Lego play...love it.

More hearty food, Apple pie, Banana Nut muffins, Pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, Toasted pumpkin seeds, and Healing cabbage soup. Well time to get back to Dexter and more knitting.
Peace, Yasmin
