A lovely Saturday

I started out this day planning to go here and there, but plans changed throughout the day. Mama was even able to fit in a nap...yay!

We were going to go to an Herb Festival and to another event, but after the farmer's market and cooking lunch for the family...I decided that I felt like a nap. So lovely hubby watched the kids while Mama took a nap. So lovely and so needed. After slowly waking, we decided to go to the bookstore and let the kids run around outdoors. We also went to REI and the kids got to check out the bicycles. The kids made homemade books at the market this morning and also played awhile with their walky talkies that Oma bought them. We had lovely meals made with farmer's market goodies and all in all it was a wonderful day. I am looking forward to many more peaceful days like this.

This Moment

I am participating in "this Moment" this week, a Friday ritual inspired by Soulemama. A moment I want to cherish and remember.
This "moment" is not acutally from this week, but from the week before. The kids hanging onto Uncle Kevin.

In my free time...

In my free time...I like to enjoy the outdoors in my Toms, I also like to cook and bake a lot. This week I made a beautiful salad using greens and goat cheese from the farmers market, pizza with arugula, spinach and dough from the farmer's market, avocado chocolate muffins, vegan banana choc chip bread, and a dinner of Eggs Florentine, veggie sausage, and pasta from the farmer's market. We are only part way into the week and I hope to make pita, falafel, and bread at some point. I am a chef by trade and for the most part do a good amount of cooking at work, but I love love love cooking wholesome from scratch food for my family. We are trying to get to a point where we are buying much less packaging and hopefully with the tailgate markets and a farm eventually, we can reach our goal. Packaging = unneccessary waste, we all need to strive towards reducing our waste.

Easter fun

Phew, I didn't realize that it has been so long since I posted something. Sometimes life just seems to fly by, and I wish I could just make things slow down a bit...I am ready for that slower pace of life. Easter was one of those rushed days, I am finding that less is more and maybe we should have skipped that chaotic Easter Egg Hunt this year and just stuck with our Easter crafting.

Wooden egg painting, Sculpey rabbits & robots, Easter egg massacre a.k.a. the worst easter egg hunt we have ever been to, face painting, a very unhappy boy that wasn't able to reach the eggs in time, all bad feeling forgotten on a hike, beautiful views from the blue ridge pkwy on a beautiful day. For the most part, easter was a success, but again I stress that maybe we need to chill on the amount of activities. Here's to slowing down a bit.

Farmer's Market Love!!

The farmer's market opened today...yay!! Can you see my excitement, because I am truly excited. The farmer's market is one of my favorite places to go. I love the interaction with the farmers, the beautiful colors, the loss of time as we stroll through, and most importantly all the food in season and homemade goods.

We scored lots of beautiful produce, a variety of pasta, farm fresh eggs, goat feta, and two pinch pots with fused glass made by some little farm girls. A great start to the wonderful farmer's market season.

Just keep cooking, cooking, cooking...

We returned from vacation on Wednesday afternoon and as I went through our fridge, I realized that there wasn't much food for lunches and whatnot. So... I made:  lasagna with some of the delicious spinach we picked up at Grandma's house, tofu scramble, cinnamon bread, potatoes provencale style, and my happy to be cooking look. In fact, I may do some more cooking right now. I smell banana bread and maybe some Spinach (picked from Grandma's house) Feta Quiche. Happy cooking everyone.

Vacation Time

On our vacation we enjoyed: some independent time, some exercising, new pajamas for a newly 5 year old, relaxing bookstore time, lots of rest, harvesting of hardy spinach, lots of wide open spaces, a kids fun run where mommy got to run while carrying that 5 year old boy and daddy ran along with the 8 year old to encourage her to keep going, some truly beautiful architecture, a little bit of cooking, and lots of knitting and reading. It was a wonderful vacation and most definitely was not long enough. We are yearning for our own wide open space one day and now have a renewed urgency to reach our dream.
Here's to keeping your eye on your dream.
